Marhaban Ya Rebellion - Trans man, John
#MarhabanYaRebellion symbolize that the holy month of Ramadan is never exclusive.
It is a celebration uniting people of society with different backgrounds, interests, and stories through series of unexpected photographs.
Presenting John, a trans man.
Most people often perceive gender and sexuality in a binary way – male and female, masculine and feminine without considering other gender sexuality when there are actually more. We now live in a time where gender and sexuality are complex.
Growing up, his family influenced him to make friends with anyone, they would let John grow. “I was able to question everything. My parents taught me to be open minded and to be compassionate towards other people.” Says John during our interview. “As long as we don’t do harm and not bother other people, that’s enough. We are all different, but we can always live side by side.”
“LGBTQ communities should be more acknowledged for their skills rather than their identity. I hope for a much more compassionate community for LGBTQ and heterosexual individuals.”
“Rahmatan lil ‘alamin means to love beyond measure disregarding differences and background. It what makes Islam & Ramdan a unique celebration.”
We are all different because of who we are, where we came from, what we believe and how we live our lives. To live life side by side without hate and judgment is a goal we’re all aiming for, just like John’s.
