#MarhabanYaRebellion symbolize that the holy month of Ramadan is never exclusive.
It is a celebration uniting people of society with different backgrounds, interests, and stories through series of unexpected photographs.
Presenting Bagio Widjaja, a Chinese man.
At the age of 87 years old, Bagio has been diagnosed with dementia for 2 years. “He used to own a sewing store and has worked as a seamstress during his younger days” Said Theresia, his daughter. “Now he lives with me and my children in Surabaya”. Bagio has been married to Corry for 59 years.
Bagio lived life through different times from the 1930s until now. Although religiously he does not celebrate Ramadan, Bagio joined in the celebration since he was young.
“Dad would give out THR money to kids in the village and join iftar together with his neighbors - it was lovely.” said Theresia. “Back then there were no restrictions - food stalls & warungs opened 24 hours during Ramadan season. Without restrictions, we understand each other better.”
“Fasting or not, Ramadan is a reminder for everyone to strive for the better in anything they do.”
