Marhaban Ya Rebellion - Ambonese Man, Timmy
#MarhabanYaRebellion symbolize that the holy month of Ramadan is never exclusive.
It is a celebration uniting people of society with different backgrounds, interests, and stories through series of unexpected photographs.
Presenting Joshua Timmothy, an Ambonese man.
In life as we get older, we will meet a wider range of people from different culture and race. Not just from around the world, but sometimes within our own town or country.
Timmy moved to Surabaya x years ago to study. Originally from Ambon, during his stay in Surabaya he has experienced several colorism to cultural racism. “I no longer take racial comments to the heart. I grew a thick skin & I know my worth – so I just shake it off” says Timmy during our interview. “I believe racism was taught to the offender. They grew up with it, so they copy. I actually feel sorry for them.”
“Do not sin only during Ramadan. We should change our mindset. That’s how Ramadan should be celebrated.”
